Commercial area construction pushed back
Posted Jan 22, 2010 By Sheena BoltonEMC News - The construction start date for the future commercial area in Findlay Creek has been pushed back six months to allow for more site planning.
Taggart Realty Management had anticipated they would start construction of the commercial area, which runs along Bank St. just south of Findlay Creek Dr., in the fall of 2010, with an expected opening in the fall 2011.
"We've been working on the site plan and it just worked out best to push it back six months, it's too difficult to get things going as quickly as we hoped in the planning process," explained Jeff Parks, director of leasing and development at Taggart Realty. "Also, there were some concerns from tenants with regards to opening too early. The longer we wait the more mature the market, but we do think there is a demand in the area not being met from a retail point of view."
Taggart is now working towards having the area open by the end of the summer 2011, with some stores opening in the first half of 2011.
"We are working towards getting the first building opening in the late winter," he said.
While the community is anxious for the area to open, Christine Murfin, president of the Findlay Creek Community Association, said residents understand the delay.
With a few concerns regarding the commercial area expressed by community members to Taggart, the company is now trying to address all the issues raised prior to submitting a site plan to the city for approval.
"People are asking why it's been pushed and people in the community just want it to open as it's been a dangling issue, but this is beyond our control," explained Ms. Murfin.
When complete the area will include a grocery store, restaurants and service facilities for the Findlay Creek community.
